The importance of attic ventilation

Attic ventilation is an extremely important part of your home here in Mobile, Alabama, and along the Gulf Coast. Attic ventilation is designed to move hot and humid air from down low in the attic up across the roof decking and out through exhaust ventilation on the top of the roof.

Most commonly, here we’ll see soffit ventilation for intake, like what you see in the video, going out to a ridge vent at the peak of the roof. All too often, we see that that ventilation is not functioning the way it’s supposed to. Either the soffit vents are clogged up, blocked by insulation, or have been painted over. We see a lot of houses that just flat out don’t have enough ridge to allow for all that intake air to exhaust.

A lot of people try to solve the problem by having a roofer install a powered attic vent, but more often than not, that powered fan creates more problems than it solves.
